I am concerned about the pain. Does the procedure hurt?

We numb the lips throughout the procedure with a highly effective topical anesthetic for your comfort. Having this service performed during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort during your procedure. Please note that pain tolerance varies from person to person.

What should I do before and after the procedure?

Please review our detailed Pre & Post Care Instructions for lips here. It is crucial these instructions are followed to ensure a comfortable healing process and to achieve the best possible results for your lips.

Am I still a candidate for lip blush if I had lip fillers injection?

A minimum of 1 month post filler is required before your appointment. It is recommended that you have lip blushing first and then the lip filler injection once lips are healed.

What color will the lips be?

We will discuss which colors suit you based on your natural lip color. Once your lips have healed, you may still enhance or change the color of your lips at anytime with conventional makeup. Your new lip tattoo is designed to act as a base, so it doesn’t mean you should discontinue using your favorite lipstick.

Will the color heal too red/bright like a regular lipstick?

Lip pigment color may fade up to 50% after the first few days. While healing, your lip color will look spotty. This is due to oxidation of the pigment and the regeneration of the skin. Please note that with the old traditional lip tattoo, a lot of times women would have only the outline tattooed which can look unnatural. Traditional lip tattoos are also deeper in the skin making them permanent and often times, harsh looking. We are staying shallow, working only in the epidermal layers of the skin. This is the reason why Lip Blush heals very soft and light. If you are looking for a dramatic change in color for your lips, this procedure might not be the best option for you, as the color will not heal dark like a bold lip stick.

How will my lips look immediately after?

Your lips will look swollen and slightly larger than normal and look as though you may have had a slight lip filler injection. The degree of this varies from person to person. The pigment and lip color will look darker initially, like a bold lipstick. The size of your lips will shrink back to normal and the color will significantly fade up to 50% within the first 4 days. You will lose color on the inside of your lips first, the edges last. Right after the procedure lips normally feel dry, chapped, tight and tender to the touch. In about 7-10 days, lips will be fully healed.

MY LIPS HAVE DARK PIGMENT IN THEM. WILL LIP BLUSH HELP COVER THAT?

Yes! We are skilled in dark lip neutralization. This requires specialized training. Warmer, lighter colors are needed to adjust the darkness present in these cases. For example, a peachy/pink color would just heal pink and the peach tones would neutralize the dark tones in the lips. A third session might be needed to fully neutralize dark lips.

HOW LONG WILL MY LIP BLUSHING APPOINTMENT TAKE?

It takes about 3-4 hours depending on factors like how many questions you have, size of lips, and how well your lips take pigment. There are a lot of steps involved and we want to make sure we take our time with each and every client.

IS LIP BLUSHING PAINFUL?

Lip Blushing is slightly more uncomfortable than permanent makeup for the brows. Lips are more vascular and inherently more sensitive. We numb the lips for a full 30 minutes. Most of the discomfort is just in the beginning part of the treatment, then the numbing agent becomes more and more effective. Some clients even fall asleep after that beginning part is over!

HOW DOES MY ARTIST DETERMINE MY SHAPE?

We will discuss any existing asymmetries and color differences between upper and lower lip. We will look at the shape together and make any adjustments if need be. Then we will begin the Lip Blush treatment after you have agreed upon the shape.

HOW DOES MY ARTIST DETERMINE MY COLOR?

Your color will be determined based off your skin tone and preferences. Generally speaking clients with cool tones and/or pale skin will look best with cooler tones and clients with warmer tones and darker skin will look best with warmer tones.

COULD THE LIP BLUSH TREATMENT BRING ON A COLD SORE?

Yes, however only if you have had one before. We have successfully performed Lip Blush treatments on clients who have had cold sores in their medical history. If you have ever had a cold sore, it is recommended that you take a preventative medication prior to the treatment. Examples of antiviral medications: Valacyclovir, Valtrex or Acyclovir.

How often is a touch up needed?

Lip color requires more frequent touch ups when compared to other permanent makeup procedures due to the fact that the lips are very vascular and the body metabolizes the lip color at a rapid rate compared to other body parts which are not as vascularized. Fading greatly depends on your skin type and tone, lifestyle, sun exposure, pigment color used, and your overall health. We recommend touch ups every year if you want to maintain your lips always looking their best.

What should I know about long term care?

Protecting your lips with sunscreen and balms will keep the color always nice and fresh.
